How to add past profiles to a flow

Learn how to add past profiles to a flow, which allows you to retroactively add qualified recipients into a flow that would’ve triggered the flow before it was set to live or manual. This process is formerly known as back-population.

Before you begin
You can't add past profiles to flows with the following:
- Dynamic coupons
If you have any dynamic coupons, please change them to static coupons before adding past profiles. - MMS
If you have any MMS messages, please change them to SMS before adding past profiles. In most case, removing images will convert MMS back to SMS. Learn about the difference between SMS and MMS.
How to add past profiles to a flow
To add past profiles to a flow:
- Click on the Flows tab, and then click on the name of the flow.
- Check that the flow's messages are set to either manual or live status before adding past profiles.
- Click on the Add past profiles icon button located on the top right of the Trigger card on the canvas.
Please note that if you are adding past profiles to a flow with 1 or more SMS messages in it, you will want to review the message sending speeds associated with your account for a more accurate representation of when your text messages will actually go out.
Whether the flow is triggered by a list, segment, or metric affects your options for adding past profiles. List- and segment-triggered flows can add past profiles either relative to when you hit add past profiles, so all recipients start at the beginning of the flow, or relative to where the recipient falls within the flow's timeline, so recipients will join the flow based on when they joined the list or segment. Metric-triggered flows only add past profiles relative to when someone performed the action that triggered the flow.
